Chemung River Flood of 1889
The 1889 flood in Elmira, NY happened on the same day as the great Johnstown, PA flood (that was much worse). In Elmira, the Chemung River destroyed much of the south and east portions, including this view of the Erie Railroad tracks along today's Erie Street.
